"Verde to San Carlos" rare book, Army Doc recollections frontier

I bought this book in Tucson where it was published in 1973 and met the author who had been a 2 year old at Ft. Bowie when Geronimo arrived after his surrender in 1886.  He was a fascinating fellow.  The story is basically of his father, an army doctor on the frontier for most of the post Civil War Indian Wars era.  The intimate details recorded bly his father and mother are incredible and he sought out other sources to comment on the same issues.  Those issues involve everything from the condition of the living quarters for their family and others to actual Indian policy conducted by the government.  He makes some very clear cases where the army is the most sympathetic group looking after the interest of the Indians under their charge.  He documents specifically the transfer of a large group of Apaches from the Rio Verde reservation in the 1870s to the dreaded San Carlos reservation, mostly due to the "Tucson Ring" a group of politically connected contractors etc.  Fascinating stuff.  Great photos.  complete index, 310 pp, original dust jacket with normal shelf wear, book in near exc condition.
