Description
Matthaeus Merian: Deutsche Städte
, hardcover book, 1962 Hoffman and Campe Publishers, printed in Germany. This book cityscapes of German topography with map engravings from the
Matthaeus Merian 1635 journal on the history of German speaking lands, with an introduction by author Friedrich Schnack. Merian (1593-1650) was a swiss-born engraver who also ran a publishing house in Frankfort. This book includes 40 fold out engravings (some of which include more than one city). Each fold-out engraving measures approximately 10.25" by 15".
Overall decent vintage condition, with typical signs of age including some foxing and overall oxidation tanning of the pages, staining along the text block edges, corner and edge rubbing to the covers. Minor creasing at some of the fold-out corners. There were remnants of a damaged plastic covering when I acquired the book which I have removed entirely. The binding appears tight and the book lays flat and square. Please view all photographs provided for additional representation of condition.
