    Description

The Law on Horseback and Other Stories by William S. Hart; 1935. Hart was an American silent film actor, screenwriter, director, producer and author. He was a top western star of the silent era, and this book is signed and inscribed on the front endpaper to Katherine MacDonald Holmes, who appeared with Hart in the 1918 film Shark Monroe, which Hart also directed. The inscription reads, "To Dear Katherine MacDonald Holmes from who loves her a heap, that's me!" MacDonald starred in the 1918 film Riddle Gawne, also directed by Hart, among many other films. She later became one of the first women in Hollywood to produce films. Holmes's bookplate appears on the front pastedown and there is some offsetting to the inscription and light foxing to both. An unfortunate later bookplate is attached to the verso of the front endpaper. Book condition is very good with light wear and softening to head and tail of spine and light wear to corners. Pages 205-218 show creases and the rear endpaper has a small spot. Rear board has a piece of the dust jacket stuck to the bottom corner Dust jacket condition poor, as shown in photo, and is in clear protective sleeve.
