. Ledger contains approximately 85-90 pages on the genealogy of extended Gallagher families in eastern North Carolina. Names include Gallagher, Keais, O'Neill, Ruffin, Saunders, Stewart and Tayloe. Ancestry dates back to 1407, with the most current listing being in 1949. Entries show birth dates, baptisms, marriages, children's names, death dates, etc. Bibliographic notes on Civil War soldiers from this family. "John Andrew Gallagher died at Wilson, NC July 30, 1862. He was Surgeon in the Provisional Army of the Confederate States attached to Latham's and Bunting's Batteries of Light Artillery, Branch's Brigade, N.C. Troops. His remains were brought home and interred in the family lot St. John the Evangelist Catholic Cemetery. Cause of death "Dissection Wound." He was a graduate of the University Medical College, New York Class of 1858."
