Bouquet's expedition to relieve Ft. Pitt showed British strength in the Ohio country. Rogers and Bouquet were two of the most experienced British frontier commanders during the time of the French and Indian War and Pontiac’s Uprising, this campaign gave Pontiac's conspiracy its death-blow" - Howes. The exploits of Rogers and his Rangers captured the public’s attention on both sides of the Atlantic during that era, and in our own time have been popularized in books and film. Less well-known is the Swiss soldier of Fortune Henry Bouquet. His campaign into the Ohio Country in 1764 ended a decade of warfare in the trans-Appalachian West. These writings offer fascinating insight and the changing nature of warfare on the colonial American frontier during the 18th century. Originally ascribed to Thomas Hutchins, who accompanied this expedition and executed the two plans; but that the book was prepared by Smith, from Bouquet's notes, has been established.
