One of the largest and most beautifully illustrated family genealogies ever assembled. The book was created in 1951 at the direction of Grace Ann Ball Dow (1869-1953), widow of Herbert Henry Dow (1866-1930), the founder of Dow Chemical Corporation. The text traces the family ancestry back hundreds of years and includes more than fifty surnames as well as royalty, nobility, and John Alden of Mayflower fame. (See the last two photos for content.)
The most striking feature is the many dozens of full- and double-page illustrations, including colorful family trees, coats of arms, and numerous prints, with plate marks.
The book contains 505 pages, printed on heavy stock on one side only. The dimensions are 10" X 13", and the weight is over 11 pounds.
This copy was held in the restricted reference area of a public library. There are library marks on the spines of the book and slipcase and further library indications inside both covers and on the title page; the text is otherwise unmarked. The slipcase is sturdy and shows some general wear, including chipping to the leather around the forward edges. The book itself is in excellent shape, few signs of age or use.
