This listing is for the hardcover book
Bollinger County: 1851 - 1976 A Bicentennial Commemorative
. This 998 page volume is a goldmine of information for anyone who has ancestral roots in Bollinger County, Missouri or for anyone interested in the history of southeast Missouri.
Much of this book is made up of histories of the local communities including Marble Hill, Lutesville, Glen Allen, Segewickville, Lixville, Exra, Alliance Mayfield, Patton, Lloyd ad Tallent, Scopus, Hurricane, Slinkard, Shrum, Bessville, Leopold, Glennon, Laflin, Drum, Huskey, Huxie, Zephyr, Hahn, Trowel, Sank, Dongola, Greenbrier, Sturdivant, Schlatitz, Richardson Crossing, Grassy, Arab, Castor, Burg, Choat and Buchanan, Bear Creek, Gipsy, Zalma and any others I missed. There is a nice 25 page section on the Civil War activities in the region including both sides and a listing of members of the Fourth Regiment. The largest section is a 150 page section of biographies of past residents.
This volume has a leatherette cover with a wood grain finish. The book was published in 1977 by the Bollinger County Bicentennial Commission and edited by Mary Hahn. This appears to be a first ediion as no other printings are mentioned. The book is fairly heavily illustrated with photos, maps and drawings. This book is pre-owned and the original owner apparently used it to research a local family, the Liley family, including an early pharmacist. I thoroughly erased about a dozen light pencil marks I found throughout the book. The last page in the book has light pencil notes about what pages the family was mentioned on. I left the notes there but they can easily be erased or if the winner tells me to erase it when they pay I will do it.
The book is in great condition with no torn or ripped pages and no creases. The cover has light wear on the edges and corners.
Shipping for this volume will be boxed and insured Media Rate Mail within the lower 48.
TERMS
(PLEASE READ BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS):
Payment:
All you should have to do at the end of an auction is click "Pay Now". There is no need to ask for an invoice or wait for one. I will send an invoice if you request one but my first priority will be to mail the items I have been paid for.
Shipping (PLEASE DO READ)
:
ANY requests for special packaging, handling, etc. MUST be transmitted through EBAY (not regular email) to the seller within 12 hours of the end of the auction.
Sellers are pretty much forced to follow Ebay policies for shipping. That means the
package must have tracking.
In over 17 years on Ebay I have never tried to make money on shipping.
Please bear in mind that the estimated postage includes a slight bump to cover Ebay fees which are charged on postage and other postal services (Insurance or Signature Delivery Confirmation for items expected to go over 0, etc) and to help cover the costs of all those petroleum based packing materials (peanuts, bubble wrap, etc). Many items are also insured in case of loss/damage. If a package was insured through Ebay's ShipCover, that will not appear on the postage label or in the postage amount.
On heavier or oversize items, I may ship via FEDEX GROUND to try to save you money and/or delivery time.
Similarly, if I can combine shipping for you I will, and will refund any significant savings. Please note that I will not combine items if their size or nature makes it impractical, more expensive or dangerous (I won't ship a lead weight and a porcelain vase together).
International Shipping:
International buyer's are responsible for their country's import duty or tariffs. International payments may require additional postage to include a tracking number or signature receipt.
Sellers are pretty much forced to follow Ebay guidelines for shipping, which means there must be a tracking number used. For International shipping that means Priority Mail, Express Mail or Registered Mail. Frankly, I hate seeing buyers spend that kind of money on postage, but I have little choice but to protect myself by following the guidelines.
ETC:
The items I sell come from various collections and estates. Generally these items have been used or stored. I have no way of knowing whether the previous owner ever smoked, had pets, stored peanuts, or ever had a musty basement, etc. I do at least a cursory cleaning of the items I sell and will do my best to remove dirt, display dust, odors etc, but I CAN NOT be responsible for things like dust in tight
corners, odors I didn't detect, or some mark buried in the middle of a book. You're not paying for my time on an hourly basis and you're certainly not paying professional conservator/restoration rates so please be reasonable. I try to be as factual as I can when describing an item.
I don't claim to be an expert or collector of the things I sell. I sell a wide variety of items and may not know that a light is supposed to go on when a certain button is pushed or that an item is supposed to have 6 pieces instead of 5, or if an item came with a specific sticker/decal on it. I try very hard to describe things as best as I can and provide good photographs. Please look at the photos, if you don't see something ask me, don't assume that it is there. Please don't expect me to be able to answer your more technical or historical questions. If you can put it in words I understand or tell me where to look, I'll do my best to answer your question.
