Hardcovers, original red cloth covered boards, 8vo, 5x7.5 inches (12.5x18.5 cm), 274 pages, 16 illustrated b&w plates.
Condition: The cloth is split at the spine folds and the spine covering has apparently been glued to the spine; the spine cloth is sunned but its lettering is clearly legible; the rear board has some water stains; otherwise the boards are solid and the covers are doing their job. Internally, the front inner hinge is split but holding, there is browning to the front free endpaper, the pages are lightly toned with occasional mild foxing; overall the inner pages are tight, bright, clean and clear. The signature and inscription of Conan Doyle is bright and clear.
Through the Magic Door is Doyle's tribute to the charm of books. He ruminates over some of his favorite authors and their books, mainly the great classics. He believes that reading gives us knowledge and hope, letting us leave the ignorance and selfishness of the world behind.
