    Description

ARCHIVE of BAILHACHE & RELATED FAMILY GENEALOGY. A wide gathering of materials compiled by Charles A. and Mary J. Bailhache of Benicia California, perhaps in preparation for the publication of a book on their family history. Mary Bailhache died in 2015, Charles Bailhache died in 2018. The materials come from their estate.
Lots and lots of ephemera, notes, notebooks, documents, letters, and related materials derived from many sources, including extended family members, historical societies, etc. Many items are photocopied, i.e. photocopied letters, information from historic books, etc. Lots of handwritten information as well.
    The archive includes:
    *
Three school type binders filled with about 50 pages each. The first binder is titled "Bailhache Genealogy Per ORMSBY, L." This binder contains copies of what were handwritten pages full of genealogy related to the Bailhache Family, including the Coffin, Fitch, Bachelder, Swain, and other families. The second binder begins with a letter from Anne Johnson to Charles and Mary Bailhache, dated February 26, 1998. It is FULL of PHOTOCOPIES of documents, charts, letters, transcripts of obituaries (e.g. "Transcript of Obituary of Nicholas Bailhache from notes of Mary Louis Smith ORMSBY, by Anne Johnson, July 2, 1997"), and all sorts of other incredible genealogical materials. This was obviously all compiled by Anne Johnson, then photocopied to sent to Charles and Mary Bailhache. There are handwritten annotations throughout, presumably in the hand of Anne Johnson. The third binder is full of handwritten genealogy of the Bailhache Family and limited genealogical data of quite a number of related families.
    *
Lots of correspondence relating to the Bailhache Family and some related families, Includes photocopies of original letters, typed letters, handwritten letters, and email correspondence (mostly from the mid to late 1990s). Includes some interesting letters from Bailhache families in both France and the U.K.
    *
A number of Wills and Deeds (one Deed is missing a large piece at the top).
    *
A group of items that includes a Vintage Photo of "Senora Josefa Fitch de Bailhache" (as written on the backside), the photo is split across its middle and is being held together with yellowing tape on the backside; personal IDs, a Family Crest, a Funeral Guest Book, some In Memoriam Cards, etc.
    *
A very long roll open chart that begins with the statement: "Descendants of JOHN BAILHACHE, d. 1800, Schoolmaster, Married to MARY DE LA PERRELLE b. Circa 1762, d. 1847". Printed. Rolls open to approximately 13x68 inches (1 ft 1 inch x 5 ft 8 inches).
    And...
    *
Lots of other Bailhache Family paper ephemera and research.
The archive is in generally GOOD condition with the majority of items being solid, bright, clean and clear. The exceptions are a few items that have tears, pieces torn off, etc.
The BAILHACHE FAMILY played a significant role in the early history of Sonoma County, Northern California. There is a street and area near Healdsburg, California, named after the family.
