    Description

Antique Travel Journals w/ Pressed Botanicals - 1900's European Trip - Extremely Rare & Unique & Amazing
You would serve yourself well to read the description in full and to view and scrutinize all the photos in detail to get an understanding of the fascinating content of this one of a kind collection of journals.
The journals are of an amazing extended trip(s) through Europe by Ida Teed and her companions in the early 1900's. Ida Teed was a well known American teacher, artist, botanical collector, and world traveler with the heart of an adventurer. She was a teacher in the Public School Systems of Los Angeles, in New York City, where she was also Art Director, and in the remote frontier Army Outpost of Fort Sheridan, Nebraska among others. She was also an avid Botanist and painter, painting scenes from her extensive travels abroad, and collecting botanical specimens from wherever she traveled.
(You can find information about Ida Teed on various online sites. Among other resources, search Ida Teed on WikiData(dot)org, JSTOR(dot)org, AskArt(dot)com, the Harvard University Herbaria & Libraries collection, view the NH1980ArmyDoctors(dot)pdf on History Nebraska Gov. For some of her botanical submissions to various institutions search Ida Teed on Bionomia(dot)net)
The Antique Travel Journals were acquired from an estate, are extremely rare, extremely unique, and historical in nature. The journals are in nice shape considering the age as they are not brittle, clean with minimal age tanning, and very much readable.
The journals are full of writings and postcards of the places she visited, a variety of 100+ year old pressed botanicals, along with varied instances of ship passenger lists, postal stamps, tickets, receipts, show programs, pamphlets, newspaper clippings, maps, correspondence, sketches / drawings and much more. And there appears to be two sketches by Thomas Gilbert White, the world-renowned mural painter, within the 1906 Italy - Spain journal. The passenger list for the 1906 S. S. GERMANIA from New York to Naples shows Ida Teed & Gilbert White as passengers.
The 1908 England - France journal is extra amazing as it is full of pressed botanical materials from famous places, landmarks, and areas including the Forest of Fontainebleau, Windsor Castle, Saint Albanes Abbey, and Flanders Fields. (There is also a set of 12 loose pages of pressed botanicals from places like King Arthur's Castle and Juliet's Tomb)
Journals are dated between 1902 and 1908. There are a total of nine journals in the following six sets:
    1902 Italy
    1902 Germany - Italy - Switzerland
    1904 Greek Cruise
    1906 Italy - Spain
    1908 England - France
    1908 England
The set of journals look to be an extremely interesting slice of life, adventure and history, in a time before the world wars, that was experienced through a unique perspective by Ida Teed on her travels.
