    Description

You're bidding on "The Holy Bible", published 1847 by H.& E. Phinney, Cooperstown, NY. "Containing the Old and New Testaments, translated out of the original tongues, and with the former translations diligently compared and revised - with Canne's Marginal Notes and References. Together with the Apocrypha. To which are added and index: an alphabetical table, of all the names in the Old and New Testament with their significations; Also, tables of scripture weights, measures and coins".
Book is a family-style Bible - 9 1/2" X 11 1/2" format, 3" thick and nearly 6 lbs. Nice primitive appearance, with tooled leather boards and gilt design and black leather label on the spine. Several early-looking engraved illustration plates.
Of particular interest, there a genealogy section detailing the family of Josiah and Relief Stone - No locality info indicated in the Bible, but the family appears to have settled in Northborough, MA. It primarily documents their children, with some extended family info related to a daughter and some of Relief's line, the Burpees. I did some tracing back and it appears Josiah's line extends back into the 1630s in Massachusetts, and includes some Revoutionary War veterans.
Note some scratch and pees to the boards, and some leather wear at corner tips, but solid with primitive appeal, especially spine-out on the shelf. Title page, genealogy page and a few other pages are loose but present. Title page is very soiled and chipped/banged at the edges. Varying degrees of foxing evident throughout. Binding is solid.
Please review photos carefully to make your own determination of overall condition and appeal, and don't hesitate to ask any questions prior to bidding - thanks for looking!
