Description
You're bidding on "The Holy Bible", published 1853 by the American Bible Society, New York. "Containing the Old and New Testaments, translated out of the original tongues, and with the former translations diligently compared and revised".Book is a family-style Bible - 7" X 10 1/2" format, 3" thick and 6 1/4 lbs. Simple but appealing appeal, with nice stamped board design and ribbed spine with gilt stamped titling.
Of particular interest, there a genealogy section detailing the family of Alfred S. Abbott - Abbott was the deacon of the Congregationtional Church in Canterbury NH from 1866 until his death at 72 in 1888. Married Susan B. Howe in 1842 and they had three children, only one of whom - daughter Almira - survived childhood. Someone completed this family's genealogy record with the death of Almira in 1913.
Note, some soil on front board, some chipping bumping at corners and edges, and some stable vertical cracking on the spine, but still has an appealing, sort of primitive appearance. Binding is solid, pages are generally clean throughout, especially for age and type. Some occasional foxing/spotting though, most noticeable on the very front and rear pages.
Please review photos carefully to make your own determination of overall condition and appeal, and don't hesitate to ask any questions prior to bidding - thanks for looking!
