With the Induction Ceremony back at New York's Waldorf-Astoria, January 12 was a night of reunions. One of  the highlights was the appearance of reclusive guitarist Peter Green, the brilliant founding member of Fleetwood Mac. For the opening slot, Green appeared onstage with Santana, playing dueling guitars with Carlos on the Green composition, "Black Magic Woman," a Number Four hit for Santana in 1970.
Members of Fleetwood Mac -- the classic seventies version -- came together to play an emotional acoustic version of "Landslide" and "Big Love." After the band's induction, the whole group revisited "Say You Love Me," with Buckingham swapping his guitar for a banjo.
For the first time since 1978, the Mamas and the Papas performed together on the classic "California Dreamin'," after Denny Doherty exclaimed, "We've been waiting here all day to do this, as most of you have, so without further ado, we'll try to get on with this!" Papa John's daughter Mackenzie Phillips filled in for the late Mama Cass, who was fondly remembered by her band mates.
John Fogerty was on hand to give a spirited induction of rockabilly pioneer Gene Vincent. New Orleans was a focus of the night, with three innovators for the Big Easy -- Lloyd Price, Jelly Roll Morton, and Allen Toussaint -- among the inductees.
Another anticipated reunion was that of the Eagles; five members had reunited for a 1994 tour, but all seven former members had never appeared together onstage until the band joined together for a two-song set at night's end.
