This book contains alphabetical listings for residents and businesses.
With computers and modern technology telephone directories have become totally obsolete.
Some years ago, the telephone company completely stopped distributing phone books in New York.
You could only receive a book if you requested it. Anyone who wanted a directory from outside the area which they live would have to pay a hefty fee to obtain the book. Of course--- this would only apply to a CURRENT phone book for the CURRENT year.
Older directories (such as this one) are NOT AVAILABLE from the telephone company (or anywhere else).
This directory is in VERY nice condition. There is no cut-outs, no loose pages, etc. The binding is strong and the book is complete.
PLEASE NOTE-- Several editions of directories are published. Sometimes these include extra pages of info at the front of the book (information about dialing. area code, long distance, etc) and sometimes omitting those pages. So, for this reason the first page of this directory is page 53. Be assured that this book is ABSOLUTELY COMPLETE-- all listings are included from A to Z.... there are NO missing pages.
These directories are very useful for doing many different types of local research on businesses and/or residents of Staten Island. It is gives a glimpse into what the area was like during that particular time period. Here is a fabulous piece for any serious Staten Island/New York historian..... a nice bit of memorabilia from almost 40 years ago.
