    1979 Royal Delft Zwart Famille Noire Wondrous Black Large Ginger Jar.It is 10 1/2 inches tall and 9 inches wide.  Condition is used, in "Excellent condition" No scratches and no chips.1978-2009 ZWART (black)"Blue, Red & Yellow are applied on a black background. This technique was introduced on the 325th anniversary of the factory. Derived from the "Famille Noire" made by various potters in the 17th century. Also know as the "Wondrous Black Delft."A beautiful interpretation of an old technique of "Famille Noire." The pattern definitely conveys an Exotic Asian feel. From the enamels of the bird to the those of the flowering tree. The polychrome enamels are mostly applied thickly giving it an appearance of over-glaze, but it's all underglaze/smooth to the touch. This "wondrous black delft" revived for 31 years is completely different from "black scratch delft." Potters tended to stay away from both techniques due to their difficulty and especially "black scratch." The business card has on the reverse, has a handwritten note in cursive from daughter to mother regarding this gift purchased in Holland.
