ARCHIVE OF 1956 MIMEOGRAPHED RINGLING BROS AND BARNUM & BAILEY CIRCUS PRESS RELEASES, MUSICAL PROGRAM & CIRCUS PROGRAM- FIFTY-ONE ITEMS, TOTALING 65 PAGES OF ORIGINAL MIMEOGRAPHED MATERIALS.
Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, 1956. 51 items, totaling 65 pages, including mostly single sheet press releases about a particular circus acts, including: Marvelous Mara Back After Circus Fall; Monster Elephant Herd Making Ringling Tour; plus press releases about clown acts, acrobats, trapeze artists, wire artists, chimp acts, tigers, aerialists, etc. The other items are mostly 2-page press releases for local advertisers, with the place name, date, and other details to be filled in at each stop. There is also a 5-page 1956 program, detailing 27 acts, hosted by John Ringly North, and lastly a 2-page “Ringing Music 1956” program. All 51 items are mimeographed on 8.5 x 11 inch sheets. Very good condition, with staples oxidized, few paperclip marks, some soiling, etc. Please examine the photographs provided to best assess condition.
John Ringling North (1903–1985) was the president and director of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus from 1937 to 1943 and again from 1947 to 1967 [wiki].
This is a wonderful archive of original 1956 Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus advertising press releases and programs, including incredibly detailed “articles” about dozens of circus performers of all shapes and sizes. I couldn’t find other examples on the market, and I imagine they were usually just thrown away after publication. Thanks!
