1950s-1960s Fabulous Vintage Chinese Foo Dog Guardian Lion Porcelain Ginger Jar.Fantastic mid century hand painted round form, decorated overall with dancing foo dogs in brilliant enamels, with a ruyi band on the rim and a lappet border at the base. Superb!
This is a vibrant and striking vintage Chinese export porcelain ginger jar. The colorful enamel foo dogs have so much detail with their fierce faces, scrolling mane locks, and animated pose. Sacred and lucky symbols adorn the piece. Each side features two foo dogs dancing with scroll clouds around the wheel of life. One pair is royal blue and yellow; the other pair is red and aqua blue-green. The lid also features a red foo dog, for a total of five foo dogs represented here. The rim is decorated with a lovely ruyi band and the base has a lappet border; both are painted in pink, blue, red, and yellow enamels. It comes with its original rosewood display stand and measures 7.5 inches tall on the stand, 6 inches tall by itself, and 5 inches wide. The mouth has a 2.25 inch opening. It is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The inside is clean and appears to have never been used for storage. The lid has some loss to the enamel. The bottom is marked in both Chinese and English.
This is an amazing hand painted porcelain enamel Chinese export foo dog ginger jar lidded urn. It will make a sriking statement in any room, and could be used in traditional Chinese feng shui for protection and good luck.
