1928 BROADSIDE FOR THE “GENERAL PACT FOR THE RENUNCIATION OF WAR SIGNED AT PARIS, AUGUST 27, 1928” PUBLISHED BY NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR PREVENTION OF WAR, 532 SEVENTEENTH ST. N.W., WASHINGTON, D.C.
ALSO KNOWN AS THE PARIS PACT OR THE KELLOGG-BRIAND PACT, IT’S PURPOSE WAS TO RENOUNCE THE USE OF WAR AMONG IT’S RESULTING 63 SIGNATORYS AS A MEANS TO RESOLVE DISPUTES OR CONFLICT. THE UNITED STATES’ FAILURE TO JOIN THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS PRESSURED U.S. SECRETARY OF STATE FRANK B. KELLOGG TO PROPOSE A PACT IN CONJUNCTION WITH FRENCH FOREIGN MINISTER ARISTIDE BRIAND IN WHAT WAS THE ONE OF THE MOST GRANDIOSE PEACE KEEPING EFFORTS FOLLOWING WORLD WAR 1 AND WAS A PARTIAL RESULT OF AN EFFORT TO MITIGATE GERMANY’S RESURGENCE. IT WAS INEFFECTIVE AS THERE WAS NO MEANS OF ENFORCEMENT. JAPAN WAS THE FIRST SIGNATORY TO BREAK THE PACT WHEN IT INVADED MANUCHURIA IN 1931.
PRINTED IN PATRIOTIC RED AND BLUE INK ON WHITE PAPER. FOLD LINES. APPROXIMATE DIMENSIONS ARE 44” X 26-1/4”. CONDITION: LIGHT TONING, SOILING, OCCASIONAL SCUFFS AND EDGE BUMPS. SOME SEPARATIONS AT FOLD LINES WITH ARCHIVAL TAPE REPAIRS ON VERSO. WILL SHIP FOLDED ON ORIGINAL LINES UNLESS AGREED OTHERWISE.
