My apologies, when I first listed item I was convinced the inscription/signature were original, but via google images research I found one other of the exact same inscription (listed back in 2021), and this particular seller was claiming it not only to be original...BUT with a C.O.A. as well!). In any case, the book itself is original, VERY rare, and the only other like it I could find currently is on Abebooks (listed at 0).10&1/8" x 8" hardcover, leather gilted spine, inscribed and signed (via facsimile) by legendary composer Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924), regarded as the greatest proponent of italian operas after Verdi. The inscription is a facsimile and dated 1904, written in Italian, the first letter "A" does mean "to" in English, the two words just above his signed name translates into "reverent homage". This book has a 1907 copyright which admittingly does confuse things a bit, unless the book publisher foresaw that the book could not be distributed for another 3 years, possibly contractual problems. This I beleive was the first edition of the re-written Madame Butterfly, the original having been written in 1904. The other 1907 book like this one (on Abesbooks) shows title page pic and there is more text added to it, confirming this one here likely predates it. The cover has a lot of edge wear (see pics), some surface wear as well, the boards are off alignment a bit (see final pic), but endpapers have no seam splitting, front endpapers does have a few numbers written small near top edge in pencil. Heavy foxing to early pages, the graphics on title page appear to have possibly been traced over in pencil (see pic 8), hard to tell, but there is an inoffensive doodle drawn just below title (see same pic). Occasionally there are marks made to page by very likely a musician becasue they seem to have a purpose, as opposed to being random. Most are in pencil and less obtrusive, I show here the most extreme examples (these actually appear to have been done wih a crayon). The lower corner of page 11 (near tip) is missing but no text lost (small piece). Title page and page before it have a short rip along lower edge and page after title page has rip along right edge. The binding feels a little delicate among the early pages but none are loose. F
