    Charles Scribner’s Sons published these beautiful, concise histories of the all important campaigns of the Civil War between 1881 and 1887.
    These volumes are important and were the first to utilize the official records of the Union and Confederate armies, then being edited by the War Department. And these were written by participants in the action with first hand accounts and information.
    These remain the most carefully analyzed history from primary sources and recollections of combatants.

    The total number printed for this set was 16.
    True first edition sets were printed by Charles Scribner's Sons with the lighter,
    brighter blue. Later reprints were by Doubleday that are dark navy shade.
